I was going to make a post of the news that
Buttercup Chickenstrips Benedict Cumberbatch was being considered for the role of Dr. Strange, Sorcerer Supreme, but I figured I’d roll it up into one post. Marvel has announced their timetable for Phase 3 of their Cinematic Universe.

I was going to make a post of the news that
This week’s Toys’R’Us flyer for Canadians gives some details on how to get the Rocket Raccoon polybag set. Starting today through October 30th, if you spend $30 or more on any LEGO set, you’ll get the exclusive minifigure for free. Seems pretty simple.
Also, tomorrow, October 25th, will see Canadian TRU’s hosting the Batsignal build event. The event starts at 11am and goes while supplies last which in my experience is less than an hour.
Thanks to Anonymous Tipster for the heads up.
The thing with these trailers for the films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that they get me so excited to see the movie they are teasing, and the Age of Ultron trailer is no exception. I can only hope that the movie will not disappoint, but they rarely do anyway.
There was a leak of the trailer earlier today setting the interwebs on fire, but Marvel went ahead and officially posted it to their YouTube channel and tweeted their reaction:

Avengers: Age of Ultron will be released in theaters on May 1, 2015.
Thanks to ninnymuggins for the heads up.
Don’t go wasting your money picking it up on eBay. I received confirmation from LEGO today that the Amazing Spider-Man 2 Electro minifigure polybag is scheduled to be a promotional figure at Toys’R’Us stores. There are no other details at this time about the promo other than it will be available later this year and that approximately 100,000 figures were made. There was no theme nor were there any sets made for the movie, which is a shame because a Gwen Stacy figure would have been great to have. Electro is it. The upcoming promotion is in addition to the the figure being given away at LEGO KidsFest events around the country. My fingers are crossed that it won’t cost an arm and a leg to get it.
So there’s a couple of new promotional polybags that I was recently made aware of.
First up is Electro from Amazing Spider-Man 2. As far as I know this was a promotional item given away at LEGO’s truck tour events known as Kids Fest. This is the only set ever made for the movie and as far as I’ve been able to gather, has never been made available anywhere else. There are a few on eBay with the prices going through the roof already so be prepared to mortgage your children to get one.
Next up is Rocket Raccoon in his Ravagers uniform holding a gun in one hand and a Groot sapling in another. First of all, yes, I did report previously that the Rocket Raccoon figure was exclusive to the San Diego Comic Con but that’s only because that was what was communicated to me by LEGO’s public relations representative. I’ve compared the picture on the bag with the one in my hand and they are identical. Second of all, I don’t care. Normally I’d be all up in arms about this saying LEGO’s pants are on fire but not so much. Could be that I’m just getting old. Could be that I have way too much on my plate to worry about insignificant details like this. Could be that I’m jaded. /shrug. Or it could be that I just want this set with the Groot sapling. And see, this is a proper way to do exclusives. For those that want the mini Warbird set with Rocket can go nuts trying to get the SDCC set. Or if you just want the figure, you can try to get this polybag which offers something a little different and arguably something just as desirable and yet is still an exclusive but at a much broader scale. It is just AWESOME. So far, all signs point to it showing up in Canada Toys’R’Us stores in the near future if it hasn’t already. No word yet on US or overseas availability.
Many thanks go to the peeps in the FBTB chat room for the news and lively discussion. Images by neoape.
76017 Captain America vs. Hydra isn’t the only set Super Heroes set that’s seeing a nice 25% discount. In some DVD/Blu-ray news today, SuperHeroHype is reporting details for the Guardians of the Galaxy Steelbook case, pictured above. Mimicking the appearance of an ’80’s walkman, the front cover displays the “Awesome Mix Vol. 1″ cassette and has the play/stop/forward/reverse buttons printed on the spine. This edition is exclusive to Zavvi in the UK. As usual, here in the US the Steelbook is a Best Buy exclusive and may come with a different version of the case.
According to SuperHeroHype, the DVD/Blu-ray is scheduled to be released on December 9, 2014 here in the US. If the Steelbook’s not your thing, you can pre-order the Guardians of the Galaxy (3D Blu-ray + Blu-ray + Digital Copy) directly from Amazon. For you music lovers, you can also pick up the Awesome Mix Vol.1 on CD for a mere $10 and includes a digital version of the album. There is no cassette version unfortunately.
Amazon is currently discounting 76015 Doc Ock Truck Heist by 22% dropping the price down from $19.99 to $15.54. Free Super Saver Shipping starts at $30, or no minimum if you’re a Prime a member. The set comes with Spider-Man, Generic Truck Driver, and Doc Ock minifigures.
Looks like we have another 10k supporters on an Ideas model, this time, the massive S.H.I.E.L.D Helicarrier by YoSub Do. It is a hugely impressive model, but I know I’m not alone that this set is never, ever, going to be made. Outside of the absurdly high piece count (22,694) and the fact that the ship wasn’t actually built, it was created in LDD which means that it’s ignoring that pesky nemesis gravity… it’s just not the kind of set that Ideas has ever been interested in producing. Anyone here interested in dropping two or three grand on any one LEGO set? They’re not interested in making $100 sets out of some strong products
I would have loved to see an official LEGO Helicarrier, but I think it’s probably safe to assume that particular vehicle has been played out in the MCU. I’m also skeptical that Marvel, for all it’s exposure, has the kind of power that Star Wars has to justify huge sets like even a vastly scaled down helicarrier would be. UCS is a risky proposition for LEGO if it wasn’t also pulling in the Star Wars fans. Other big sets haven’t traditionally fared as well, and lingered or languished.
It’s one of those things that bothers me about Ideas… these builds would be awesome but so many times it’s more like demanding that science get around to cloning Unicorns. Just a wee bit unrealistic in expectations. Congrats to YoSub for getting the support, though. It’s a lot harder now, and there’s obviously a lot of people that like it.
