[SDCC] More Images of 75084 Wookiee Gunship

75084 Wookiee Gunship 1

LEGO Star Wars sets for January 2015 is shaping up to be a Rebels push as SDCC debuted the model for 75084 Wookiee Gunship. For seventy ($69.99) of your hard earned dollars, you’ll get a 570 piece model with four minifigs, three of which are Wookies. There is a sled / gunner’s station that fits into the cargo hold of the gunship and two cockpits up front. This set seems like such a derivative of the Republic Gunship that it’s hard for me get excited about it. And the price is a bit hard to swallow considering what you’re getting for it.

[SDCC] The Statues of The LEGO Booth

Chopper Statue 1

The LEGO booth is home to a record number of statues this year, totalling five in all. We’ve already posted images of the LEGO Batcycle and a few snaps of the other statues but I thought I’d try taking a few more.

Choppers head actually moves by rotating left and right and features its front wheel which was missing from the previous photos released of the statue. At first I thought its two legs were actually going into the table until I realized that the angle was built that way on purpose.

My favorite one is the of Spider-Man complete with webbed up camera.

So, yeah, I went ahead and took a bunch of pictures of the LEGO Star Wars gallery. I’ve covered or at least tried to cover everything in the case on all three sides.

[SDCC] A LEGO Nerd’s Choice of Panels – Thursday

Hello, Comic Con attendees! Like last year, I’ve compiled a list of panels that I think might interest you, fans of LEGO licensed themes! So if you’re looking for things to do and see that doesn’t involve a line to get some exclusive toy, take a peek below. I know I will be trying my best to go to some of these. I’ll be posting daily so that you don’t have to keep searching back for the schedule. Just check the site each morning and I hope to see some of you there.

Toy Story That Time Forgot

Calling all Toy Story fans! ABC and Disney•Pixar present an exclusive first look at the upcoming holiday special, Toy Story That Time Forgot. Executive producer Galyn Susman (Toy Story OF TERROR!), director Steve Purcell (Brave), and head of story Derek Thompson (WALL•E) give you an exclusive inside look at the sketches, storyboards, and concepts that went into the making of this Disney•Pixar special!

The Heroes of Star Wars Rebels
6:00pm Room 6BCF
The almost 20-year stretch of Star Wars history between Episodes III and IV is a dark time in the galaxy that has never before been explored on screen. The evil Galactic Empire has tightened its grip and only a select few are brave enough to stand against tyranny and ignite a rebellion. Join Star Wars Rebels executive producers Dave Filoni and Simon Kinberg as well as series stars Freddie Prinze, Jr., Vanessa Marshall, Steve Blum, Tiya Sircar, and Taylor Gray for an exclusive preview of what’s to come this Fall on Disney XD in this eagerly awaited television series from Lucasfilm Animation.

The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – A Look Under the Shell
8:15pm Room 6DE
In celebration of the new documentary film, Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, co-creator Kevin Eastman will lead this fascinating panel including Randall Lobb (writer/director), Isaac Elliott-Fisher (executive producer), Mark Hussey (executive producer), and Galen Walker (executive producer), taking fans behind-the-scenes and beneath the streets into the incredible 30-year journey and reveal the real origin story of four of pop culture’s most enduring heroes. Featuring clips from the documentary, followed by a Q&A discussion, fans will get to see how this so-called “happy accident” defied every naysayer to become one of the most popular and beloved franchises in the world.

[SDCC] Star Wars Minifigure Gallery On Display at Comic Con

lego-sdcc-case lego-sdcc-case-minifigures

This year, 2014, marks the 15th anniversary of the LEGO Star Wars license. And during that time, over 600 minifigures have been made of various characters from our favorite franchise. To mark the occasion, LEGO has built a special case and will be displaying all 600 or so figures at this year’s San Diego Comic Con. StarWars.com actually broke the news earlier today but I didn’t get a chance to post until now. You should go check out the article as Erik Varszegi provided some comments on the process of putting the case together. The case is actually triangular in formation with all three sides showcasing all of the characters. Thanks again go to forum member Mos Eisley for the potato pictures below.

[SDCC] MTV Reveals 75084 Wookie Gunship, Rebels’ Chopper Statue

75084_Wookie-Gunship_LSW

MTV is giving us our first look of two new things that will be at LEGO’s booth at the San Diego Comic Con.

First up is a first-look at 75084 Wookie Gunship. I guess Wookies had their butts handed to them during the Clone Wars and decided to do away with wooden-based technology.

Next up is a large-scale sculpture of Chopper from the upcoming Rebels animated series. With all of these sculptures on display at their booth, I’m wondering if there will be any space to even walk around inside. I’m imagining their booth to look a mid-game, human-sized chessboard at this point.

[SDCC] Pop! Art of the Geek Exhibit to Feature Works by LEGO Artists Brandon Griffith and Nathan Sawaya

The names of Brandon Griffith and Nathan Sawaya should not be unfamiliar to our readers. They’ve been featured before for their work and next week during the San Diego Comic Con, they will be participating in an art show called Pop! Art of the Geek. The show is curated by Nathan Sawaya and “highlights the artwork of a dozen established and emerging artists who have re-imagined the icons of pop culture in ways never before seen”.

Brandon will be featuring the above pictured piece, titled “It’s All A Joke,” a construct of the comedian’s badge from the popular Watchmen comic.

Nathan Sawaya will be displaying his iconic Han Solo in Carbonite LEGO sculpture.

If you’ve never seen either piece in person, it’s worth your time to stop by the gallery see them for yourself. The pictures really don’t do them justice. The exhibit will be on display at the Michael J. Wolf Fine Arts Gallery located at 363 Fifth Ave in the heart of the Gaslamp District across the street from Dick’s Last Resort. Gallery hours are from Wednesday July 23rd to Sunday July 27th from 11am to 7pm. If you are going to the show, it is extremely easy to find as it is on the second block you walk up when you head into the Gaslamp for lunch or dinner. All of the art is for sale and benefits the Art Revolution Foundation that works to put art supplies in schools. For more infomation check out the Art of the Geek website.

[SDCC] More LEGO Comic Con Exclusives Revealed: Ghost Ship, Unikitty? And an Upcoming Movie Set Revealed

Eagle-eyed contributor Tohst spotted this Yahoo! Movies article revealing a few more goodies in store for us attending San Diego Comic Con.

First up is a Unikitty whose face changes from “Cuteskitty” to “Cheerkitty” with a flick of a wrist. I’m guessing this Unikitty is bigger than the brick built one you get in a set, maybe about the same size as the awesome keychain light. That being said, I don’t believe that it is one of the four exclusive minifigs that LEGO plans to give away and it is probably just an item for sale at the booth.

Next is a reveal for an upcoming set based The LEGO Movie coming out January 2015. It looks to be a small set featuring Batman, Angry Kitty, a Micromanager, and a skeleton. Hopefully this picture isn’t cropped and hiding a gigantic model in the background somewhere because this would be a cheap way to get Angry Kitty even though she is a different design than the one that comes in Emmet’s Construct-o-Mech.

The second reveal is the Star Wars themed retail exclusive mentioned in my previous article, The Ghost ship. Retailing for $39.99 it features the R2 unit, Chopper. And being built in the same Chibi style as Rocket’s Warbird, my hope of a full-sized TV series Batmobile is quickly diminishing. The Ghost, Batmobile, and Warbird all retail for $39.99 and are limited to 250 each per day of the con not including preview night.

Announcing MOC Madness 2014: Steam Wars Returns!

mocmadnesslogo2014-4Back in 2008 we ran a contest with a simple challenge: pick a vehicle from Star Wars and remake it in steampunk style. The results were fantastic and it got a lot of attention even beyond the usual Lego fansites, making its way onto Gizmodo, Make, Wired’s Geekdad, and even the StarWars.com blog to name a few. We’ve kicked around the idea in the years since and people have even asked a few times if we would ever bring it back. That time has finally come, and we’re going to take it up a notch this time. Click through for the full details on what the challenge entails, what prizes we have lined up, and how you can enter.
