[CAN] TRU Ends Bricktober With Free Potter Lab Set

Toys R Us Canada is capping off Bricktober by giving away a FREE 30111 Harry Potter ‘The Lab’ when you spend $35 or more on LEGO. To help make this an easy task for you, they’re offering 2 for $40 on all $24.99 sets & 2 for $60 on all $39.99 sets. I would suggest you head into a store to score your freebie set because it’s temporarily out of stock online (Sorry folks! I would’ve posted this on Friday when the sale started, but I was busy), but that may work to your advantage. Every week I went into the store they had leftover magnets from all the previous weeks, so you may get lucky. Last year, my local store was out of each weeks magnets by the end of the weekend. I wonder why this year’s were so unpopular.

Making Dark Films Fun: A LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7 Interview

The website Digital Spy has done a great little interview with Athur Parsons, the director of the upcoming LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 game. He talks about refreshing the gameplay, expanding the already large hub world, translating the dark tone of the final films into a fun filled adventure and why he thinks the LEGO brand games are such a success. For me the most interesting bit involved talk of side scrolling 2-D gameplay, but you’ll have to read it yourself to find out what that’s about. There’s less than a month until the game releases on November 15th and with the rumours of multiple LEGO games coming in the future right up until 2016, it sounds like TT Games is really trying to step it up.

Pre-order the game from Amazon here if you haven’t already!

New Trailer for LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7

There’s a brand spanking new trailer for LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 out on the intertubes and I must say, the visuals look fantastic. I’m not a fan of Harry Potter by any means, not because I don’t like it, I just never got around to reading any of the books, but based on this trailer alone, the game looks worth picking up.

Maybe the books too.

Maybe.

Review: 4842 Hogwarts Castle

Hogwarts Castle

4842 is the 4th edition of Hogwarts Castle, and will probably be the last.  At the top of the pricing schedule, this set has plenty to offer both Harry Potter fans and LEGO collectors. (more…)

No word yet on the distribution channels for this or whether it’s a collect on the day only deal.  When that’s known, I’ll post that news.

The holding page on The Sun’s website can be found here.

*edit*

It’s collect on the day only, from branches of WH Smiths or Toys R Us … no collecting the vouchers and sending off later.

There’s also a golden 2 x 4 brick inserted into random sets from throughout the promotion.  Each has a code on it, which you can phone a number to find out what prize you’ve won.   More details can be seen here.

Review: 4865 The Forbidden Forest

4865 - Set Overview

As great as the Star Wars battle packs had been in the past for building large amounts of generic characters, that standard has changed. This may be due in part to expanding the format to other themes, but for whatever reason the smaller sets have really come into their own. In many cases they have extremely rare parts and/or exclusive figures and it’s a trend I for one love, but at 64 pieces and only one exclusive fig does this set live up to this growing expectation?

Kotaku Previews LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7

LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 Screen

Kotaku published a preview of LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 earlier today detailing some of the new gameplay elements and features in the last LEGO Harry Potter video game. One notable quote:

Ron Weasley also gets a new skill, the ability to open joke boxes left around the game by his brothers. Inside players will find helpful tools, like an instant swamp, fireworks or a pair of shoes that allow him to walk up walls. If someone other than Ron tried to open a joke box they’ll get punched in the face with a giant boxing glove.

Punched in the face with a giant boxing glove. Awesome.

LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 comes out on November 15, 2011, just in time for the holidays. Preorder your copy from Amazon today!

We’ll be reviewing the game once it’s out and will have a review done for Years 1-4 soon.

Review: 4867 Hogwarts

4867 Hogwarts (10)

At first glance, 4867 Hogwarts looks like just a poor man’s version of the full-blown Hogwarts Castle.  Even more puzzling is the fact that right next to it on the shelf IS 4842 Hogwarts Castle.  So beyond scope and size, what really sets the smaller 4867 apart from its big brother? (more…)
