Simply put, 8486 Mack’s Team Truck is a great set. I can’t find a lot of fault to it, and it’s pretty much everything you’d expect from a Team McQueen set.

It’s a little unfortunate that the LEGO Cars theme is centered around the second movie. I personally would have enjoyed location based sets around Radiator Springs to build my own little town. But despite that, there are some expectations on how the second movie would translate to LEGO sets. I mean, you’d have to have a set with Luigi and Guido, right? And 8206 Tokyo Pit Stop does not disappoint.

You won’t find Rod “Torque” Redline in any official LEGO Cars set. Rod “Torque” Redline is an homage to the muscle cars out of Detroit, right down to the Michigan license plate. As a LEGO set, he was a promotional item from a Toys’R’Us LEGO Building Event held on Saturday October 15, 2011. By some of the things I’ve heard and read, I should consider myself extremely lucky that my daughter and I were able to walk away with a set for each of us.
I have two items of news regarding Toys’R’Us.
First up, if you haven’t heard by now, TRU is celebrating Bricktober all month long featuring a different deal every week. In addition to the current offerings of a free Rob N. Hood minifigure magnet with a LEGO construction purchase of $20 or more and the free Ninjago Battle Arena with a LEGO construction purchase of $50 or more, Toys’R’Us brick and mortar stores will be celebrating LEGO Cars 2 by hosting a building event this Saturday October 15 from 2pm to 4pm where kids “can build and decorate their own version of Rod ‘Torque’ Redline.” I’m not entirely sure what building and decorating their own version exactly means. Is it an official promo set? Do they just mash bricks together from a basic assortment of parts? Eh who knows. I’ll be there with daughter in tow to see exactly what the deal is.
Secondly, in a stroke of the unexpected, TRU’s affiliate program extended an offer for FBTB to become an affiliate again, and we’ve accepted. So, we’ve added the button back to the left sidebar and, as usual, will still be reporting sales and deals like before. Thank you, TRU!
Thanks to Australian toy website, Hobbyco, we now have a more complete picture of what 2012 will bring in regards to the other licensed themes. Please note that the prices you see in the screen caps above and below are in Australian dollars. Super Heroes is rounding out quite nicely with the Avengers’ Quinjet on the Marvel side, while DC’s offerings seem to be awash with Batman sets. There’s also a listing for the ‘Ultrabuild’ Hero Factory-type of Constraction sets that were shown at Comic Con. Cars doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon much to my delight. Assuming some of these are slated for January, they should start showing up sometime in December.
Hat tip to BrickTuts for the heads up.
The second week of Toys R Us Canada’s Bricktober celebration sees a really nice 30% discount on all Cars LEGO, which is a vast improvement to the stingy four Star Wars sets they discounted last week. You can also get 20% off on all Ninjago & Technic sets and the now standard $5 off ALL (POTC included for once) non-clearence LEGO videogames.
In addition to the free LEGO Forestman Magnet *cough*glued*cough* with a $35 purchase, if you spend that amount on one of the three sale themes you’ll also recieve the 30042 Atlantis Mini Sub gratis. Still not the greatest deals thus far this year though they are improving and the freebie double up is pretty sweet. I`m keeping my fingers crossed for an end of the month BOGO50%off.
Toys R Us Canada has finally extended its month long 20% off sales to the Star Wars line. Unfortunately it only covers a few specific sets, though there is at least one stand out in the crowd.
- 7879 Hoth Echo Base
- 7959 Geonosian Starfighter
- 7869 Battle For Geonosis
- 8095 General Grievous’ Starfighter
- 6212 X-Wing Fighter
Toys R Us Canada is now offering 20% off on all Pirates Of The Caribbean sets for two weeks, starting today and running until Sept. 22nd. All Cars LEGO is still 20% off until the 28th, so get your Pirates sets first. The 20% offer also includes all Atlantis, Pharoah’s Quest, Kingdoms, Racers & Technic sets which means that there’s a good chance Star Wars will be up the last week this month.
Also, for the gamers in the crowd, TRU has knocked an additional $5 off of their LEGO video game selection (excluding POTC for some reason) bringing games like LEGO Star Wars III down to just $14.97. That’s quite a savings considering it’s still $20 on Amazon in the US and still $25-$50 most places in Canada.
Additionally, you can hit the store on Saturday between Noon & 2PM for a FREE back to school LEGO build. They’ll only have between 50-100 per site so the early bird gets the worm, just be sure to bring a kid or a convincing excuse that your nonexistent kid is stuck in dance class.
Free brick is free brick.
