79102 Stealth Shell in Pursuit, 79103 Turtle Lair Attack Revealed

Danish website Brixit posted images of the box art for two upcoming TMNT sets, 79102 Stealth Shell in Pursuit, above, and 79103 Turtle Lair Attack, below. Gonna take a wild guess and say Splinter will only be available through the Lair set.

Thanks to Anonymous Tipster for the tip.

Creations for Charity 2012

Nannan Zhang of The Brothers Brick runs Creations for Charity every year and every year it astounds me how much he and his team are able to donate. In case you don’t know, Creations for Charity raises money by selling MOCs donated by AFOLS. The money raised is used to buy LEGO on discount leading up to the holidays. Those LEGO sets are then donated to Toys for Tots by the truckload. You can check out the About page to get a better idea of what they’ve done in the past and for information on how you can participate. If you’re already familiar with the process and want to see what MOCs are for sale, you can hit up the Creations for Charity Bricklink store and browse the current offerings. More stuff will be added regularly as time goes on until November 30th so keep an eye on the store. In it’s first day of sales, they’ve already raised $1,200!

Our very own Ken “buriedbybricks” Robichaud is donating his Chokutō, pictured below, for the cause. I’d link directly to the item but Bricklink’s framed pages make it impossible to do.

[NYCC] Set Reveals and Previews

With New York Comic Con 2012 came the debut of a new TMNT, Marvel, and DC set. Here’s what I thought of each!

[NYCC] Exclusives

A lot to chew on from this year’s NYCC LEGO booth. We got two new exclusive TMNT minifigures and a new collectible Star Wars tin set.

Honestly I was extremely disappointed that there were two exclusive Ninja Turtles minifigures for NYCC after SDCC had four awesome super hero minifigs earlier this year. Rather than a short cycling line to pick up minifigures, they used a raffle system for the black Ninja Turtle with an awesome NYCC-stickered skateboard. (more…)

I’ve been attending New York Comic Con since 2009. This year was my first time as an exhibitor, which was a completely new experience. I am a member of I LUG NY, the New York tri-state area LEGO User Group. A few months ago, LEGO community relations manager Jim Foulds approached us with the opportunity to create a fan display for the convention. We were asked to have Star Wars, Marvel, DC, and Lord of the Rings represented. A LUG member each took charge of a theme, and we worked in teams over many weeks to build a display. We adopted the MILS standard of building to produce a modular display that could be rearranged depending on what area dimensions we had to fill. It worked out great, and we are all really proud of the result.

Amazon Discounts 9509 LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar to $39.99

Amazon has discounted 9509 LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar down to the price it should have started at, $39.99, a 20% savings off of the $49.99 MSRP. I’m guessing not too many units moved at the old price. They’ll probably have tons left over post Christmas too if you’re patient and lucky enough.

Contest Reminder: Under Three Weeks Left For Mech Madness 2012

That’s right folks, we’re already past the halfway point in our latest contest and it’s time to kick things up a gear. Right now we only have seven challengers in the pool, with a heavy leaning towards villains, but one look at the talk in the contest thread tells me these are just the tip of the iceberg. You guys really know how to throw down the gauntlet so I’m not really worried about the low early turnout. Again, the deadline is 11:59pm Pacific Time Saturday November 3rd, 2012 – giving you 20 days left to polish off your robots and submit them to the forum. Here’s what you late comers will be up against:

Every one of those blew me away when I saw it posted and I can’t wait to see what everyone else is working on.  Ace is still keeping the remaining prizes under wraps (what can I say, the man loves suspense) but there’s already $300 in Lego Shop at Home Gift Cards on the line so I can’t imagine what he’s cooking up to sweeten the deal.

[NYCC] LEGO Batman 2 The Movie

Lego Batman 2 The Movie

IGN is reporting that a surprise trailer was screened at a pane’ at NYCC. The panel was for the sequel to the animated feature, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns (which will be out next year) but the audience was treated to a preview of the LEGO Batman: The Movie – DC Super Heroes United.

The kid-friendly CG-animated toon sees the Joker and Lex Luthor team-up to take Gotham City apart “brick by brick,” which leads to Batman and Robin to join forces with Superman to stop them. The Justice League (specifically, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Cyborg, and Hal Jordan’s Green Lantern) appear in the movie, as do supervillains such as Penguin, Two-Face, Riddler, and Harley Quinn. Commissioner Gordon is also in the mix.

[NYCC] LEGO Previews 76001 The Bat vs. Bane: Tumbler Chase

This set will be unveiled at the 2012 New York Comic Con either on Thursday October 11 or Saturday October 13. Rick “GIR3691″ Theoroux will be there to shoot pictures and provide a first hand impression of the set.

My first impression? The Tumbler is tiny and makes the one from 7888 The Tumbler: Joker’s Ice Cream Surprise look like the crown jewels. The stickers used for the details actually make it look worse. The Bat is actually more impressive than I had thought but the way the ‘arms’ are built, with the exposed turbines along with the cannons, just screams laziness. It looks like something I would build, and that’s not saying a whole lot. I’m not crazy about all the blue; it reminds me of the original TIE Fighter set. Arms and blueness aside, I actually like the way it looks and can’t wait to build it.
