Good evening and welcome to From Bricks To Backtalk where we sit down with members of the community and talk about today’s issues. I’m your host Allen “Tohst” Carley and today we’re speaking with FBTB writers Ace “onions” Kim and Ken “buriedbybricks” Robichaud. Their latest massive building contest, dubbed Mech Madness, launched a few weeks ago and today they offer an inside peek on the origins of the building tournament and the Secret Crisis story behind it.
No I’m not done talking yet and I obviously don’t know how to space things out.
This poster popped up on TheHDRoom promoting the upcoming LEGO Lord of the Rings video game. I assume there’s a “Beasts and Heroes” equivalent poster floating around out there somewhere but heck if I know for sure. LEGO doesn’t tell me these things.
The page on TheHDRoom also has a promotional “Developer Diaries” video where TTGames sits down and talks about, I’m guessing, developing the game. I’ve embedded it below for your convenience:
So, the Avengers movie comes out on DVD/Blu-ray today, and if you’re like me you’ve been paralyzed by the myriad of purchasing options that are out there. I guess that’s one benefit of getting that suitcase 10-disc set that’s not coming out ’til the spring: you can buy it, be done with it, and not have to worry about missing out on any extras or goodies, ’cause anything else would pale in comparison. I think that whole lawsuit is really going to hurt the 10-disc edition sales as I can’t imagine a lot of people waiting long enough for it. The only other version that really appealed to me was the steelbook case that was a pre-order exclusive to Best Buy, but I totally found out about it too late so my chances are nil on getting that one. So now I’m stuck in circling pattern trying to figure out where to throw my money at to buy the movie. Having recently done a garage sale where I sold off a good majority of my DVD’s, I’m thinking digital’s the way to go, but you don’t get the cool extras like you can get with the Target 2-disc special edition version of the release. Rumor has it that the 90 minute bonus disc is the same bonus content you get with the 10-disc set. It’s only $19.99 and it comes with 2D Blu-ray and DVD versions of the movie. No digital copy but I suppose that’s what Handbrake’s for.
In other news, to celebrate the release of the movie, Amazon has price matched Target’s sale prices on the LEGO sets based off the movie. The best deal is 6869 Quinjet Aerial Battle, down 14% to $59.99. Full list is below:
Have you scored your Bane yet? While he may not be the movie-accurate version coming out next year, he is still a great interpretation of his comic book counterpart and you can score him as well as Poison Ivy, a Robin that’s not embarassing to look at, and Bruce Wayne and his alter ego, Batman, in 6860 The Batcave. Amazon’s current price is a low $53.00 even, down 24% from $69.99.
Amazon has a really nice discount on LEGO’s latest version of Star Wars’ most iconic ship. 9493 X-Wing Starfighter is down 27% to $43.87. Even with California’s sales tax added on top, it’s a really decent deal. Even better if you live in a state that’s not collecting tax from the big A. Free shipping applies even if you don’t have prime so pick one up today!
Registration opens at 4 pm PST TODAY for FBTB’s 7th online parts draft which will take place on Saturday October 20th at 10 am PST.
Still to be announced is how the figures will be split up (voice your opinion here) and how we’ll set the draft order.
10 participants will be drafting 20 sets total. The draft fee is $40, which covers the 50% off MSRP cost of the two sets, sales tax and ziplocks. All things being equal, you should receive an average of 589 parts for your money. There will be an additional nominal charge after the draft has been completed which will cover your exact shipping and packaging cost.
To register, post “C-C-C-COMBO!” in this topic at/after 4pm PST. The first nine responders will go into our Potential Participants pool, and everyone after that will go into a Standby List (not a bad place to be, the last few drafts considered!) Payment instructions will be sent out after we get 10 potentials.
