Amazon Discounts 9474 The Battle of Helm’s Deep

Still looking to complete your LEGO LOTR collection on the cheap? I know I am. Amazon currently has 9474 The Battle of Helm’s Deep discounted by 22%, down to $101.14. And of course, there’s no tax to most states and free shipping, so you’ll be saving even more.

It’s been a while since I’ve given an update so this is going to seem like it’s coming out of left field, but in case anyone was wondering, I am no longer unemployed. About a month and a half ago, I started working full-time for a (semi-)local hospital in SoCal helping manage their intranet. And the only reason I bring that up now is because ever since I started working full time again in an office, I appreciate more and more the time, energy, and money saved by ordering stuff online. I was telecommuting at my previous job and it was easy to just pick up and go do a Target run or whatever. Not so much anymore these days. Amazon is pretty much my go-to site to order stuff and with Amazon Prime, getting things quickly is soooo convenient.

And since I’m giving way long overdue updates I might as well give this one. My wife and I are expecting our second baby in mid-October. We’re having a boy and no his name is not going to be Luke. Time is such a commodity these days, if you don’t have kids, you have no idea. Anyways, enough about me….

Update: 9473 The Mines of Moria is discounted 23%, down to $61.91. That Uruk-Hai army set is still at MSRP. Expansion plans will have to wait…

[UK] Amazon Discounts 9516 Jabba’s Palace

Here’s a deal for our friends across the pond. Amazon.co.uk has also dropped the price 20% down to £96. I’m not sure how tax works over there, so I have no idea if they charge tax or not. But they do have free shipping so it’ll at least save you time, energy, and petrol.

LEGO Star Wars January 2013 Set List Revealed

LEGO Star Wars

Down at Celebration VI, there was a LEGO Star Wars panel where the panelists revealed the set list for LEGO Star Wars’ January assortment. And they are:

Planet Series 3:
Kamino w/ R4-P17 droid and Jedi Starfighter
Coruscant w/ Clone Pilot and Republic Assault Striker
Asteroid Filed w/ Tie Bomber and Tie Pilot

Regular Sets:
The Old Republic Battle Pack (2x Sith Troopers + 2x clones)
Clone Troopers vs Droidekas Battle Pack (sniper droideka)
A-wing w/Ackbar, Han and A-wing pilot
AT-RT w/ yoda, clone trooper and assassin droid
Z-95 Headhunter w/ 2x Clone Troopers, General Krell
The Rancor Pit (as revealed at SDCC)

So R4-P17 is just the astromech head, right? RIGHT? Okay probably not, but that was my first instinct.

In other news, a new Visual Dictionary will be released in 2014, and there is another LEGO Star Wars video game in the works.

FBTB Lands at LEGO Shop@Home

FBTB's Shop@Home Page

You may have seen Brickset’s announcement regarding their new landing page, and I suspect TBB is closely behind. Well, FBTB also has our own landing page on LEGO Shop@Home. Clicking on any of the banners or buttons that point to Shop@Home will get you to our portal page with a few product links to make shopping for LEGO and supporting FBTB as easy as possible. Being a licensed theme site, we’ve focused on LEGO Super Heroes for the landing page. A big thanks go out to LEGO for making this possible.

Amazon Sells 9509 2012 Star Wars Advent Calendar, Wallets Cry

I don’t know when this happened, but Amazon has now listed the 9509 Star Wars Advent Calendar for sale for $49.99. Since it’s sold and shipped by Amazon, you can bet that price is MSRP. While not as expensive as TRU’s $59.99 price tag, it’s 10 bucks more than last year’s exclusive. Considering how poorly rated last year’s calendar was, this year’s looks to be slightly better. You get two exclusive holiday themed minifigs this year, Santa Maul and an R2-Snow2, some other non-exclusive army-builder figs, and a bevy of micro models. Like last year, we’ll be doing a daily review of each set come December so stay tuned and when I say ‘we’ I mean Ken. Thanks Ken!

New Lord of the Rings Game Art, Character Abilities Revealed

LEGO Lord of the Rings New Art

The above poster was released by ComingSoon.net yesterday. Not much else to say. There’s a nice large sized image (1920×760) on our flickr stream.

The fine folks over at Gamedot posted the below press release detailing the main cast of characters and their in-game abilities. Most of them make sense, but Samwise’s ability to “grow spectacular flowers and vines” is a bit of a mystery. I guess he can grow the vines to help solve puzzles and access areas, but spectacular flowers still has me guessing.

– Press Release –

In the Third Age, an unlikely hero stepped forward to carry a heavy burden and help bring an end to Sauron and The One Ring. At the Counsel of Elrond in Rivendell, nine heroes banded together to form the Fellowship of the Ring and embark on an unforgettable journey through Middle-earth.

This autumn, the Fellowship gathers again in LEGO® The Lord of the Rings, the next great adventure from TT Games that combines the humour and imagination of LEGO play with the beloved The Lord of the Rings motion picture trilogy. Now you can share the entire fellowship with your readers by downloading a new piece of artwork released today by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

-

Frodo Baggins

A small and quiet Hobbit from Bag End, Frodo is entrusted to bring the One Ring to Mount Doom and destroy it forever. In spite of his noble spirit, he starts to feel the terrible powers of the One Ring and the danger of the fearsome creatures who hunt him. With the help of his friends in the Fellowship, Frodo must bravely carry this heavy burden to save Middle-earth.

In-Game Abilities: Phial of Galadriel to act as a light in dark places. Elven cloak that camouflages the wearer. Wields Sting. Possesses the One Ring which, when worn, accesses the Wraith-world of the Nazgῠl.

-

Samwise Gamgee (Sam)

Sam is Frodo’s gardener who loves poetry and his frying pan. With a brave heart and high spirits, he is chosen by Gandalf to accompany Frodo on his quest. Sam makes a promise not to lose his best friend, but evil powers will test his loyalty to Frodo.

In-Game Abilities: Has a tinder box to start fires, sleek Elven rope to explore new areas, and ability to grow spectacular flowers and vines.

-

Gandalf

A warm and wise Wizard, Gandalf is the leader of the Fellowship of the Ring and dedicated to defeating Sauron. Initially known as Gandalf the Grey, he delights his Hobbit friends with fireworks when he visits The Shire. He returns after an epic duel with a Balrog to become a more powerful Wizard known as Gandalf the White.

In-Game Abilities: Has a magical staff that can lift and build LEGO objects, provide light in dark places and shoot out bolts of energy.

-

Aragorn

Known merely as a Ranger of the North, Aragorn is actually a descendant of ancient kings and heir to the throne of Gondor. Masterful with the sword, this great warrior leads the Fellowship of the Ring when Gandalf the Grey was defeated by the Balrog. In joining Frodo in his quest, Aragorn also comes closer to his fate.

In-Game Abilities: Possesses Andúril, the sword which bestows magical powers. Uncovers and follows the tracks of friends and foes alike

-

Legolas

An Elven Prince, Legolas joined the Fellowship as a representative of his people. His agility and skill in archery is unmatched. Because of the old feud between Elves and Dwarves, Legolas and Gimli are often found trying to outdo each other.

In-Game Abilities: Amazing sharp-shooter with his bow. Possesses extreme agility and balance.

-

Gimli

As a representative of the Dwarves, Gimli is a mighty warrior always ready to draw his broad axes in battle. He is proud and strong. Gimli is not particularly good at riding horses and dislikes being tossed around—except when absolutely necessary.

In-game Abilities: Shatters LEGO rocks with his mighty axe.

-

Boromir

Boromir is the strong and honourable commander of Gondor’s army. He is also next in line to serve as steward of Gondor as the true heir to throne has not returned. Dedicated to defending his people, he is tempted to take the One Ring from Frodo and wield its powers to protect Gondor.

In-Game Abilities Uses the Horn of Gondor to deafen enemies. Broad shield protects him from enemy attacks.

-

In-Game Abilities: Access to Hobbit holes, and crawl spaces. Elven cloak that camouflages the wearer.

Amazon Discounts 4184 Black Pearl by 24%

Amazon has discounted 4184 Black Pearl to $76.46, down 24% from $99.99. It’s been hovering around the $82 dollar mark, but finally has dropped down a considerable amount. The Black Pearl is the best set to come of the POTC line. The Davey Jones minifigure alone should be incentive enough to pick up the ship. Just go hit up Bricklink to pick up some more cannons since the Pearl only comes with two.

Can He Swing On A Thread?

web hang

Take a look overhead! This super posable version of The Amazing Spider-man by mmccooey has 48 points of articulation which easily trumps any wall-crawling action figure I’ve ever owned. Before you say anything about how much easier it is to make larger figure more posable, keep in mind the massive Marvel Legends Icons Spider-man figure that still only has 30 points of articulation (that didn’t stop me from getting both the masked and unmasked versions). Take a look through the album and check out all the clasic Spidey poses this fig can do, it’s really quite impressive and a great follow up to his Batman and Deadpool figures. I chose my favourite for the pic above because it’s always felt like the most uniquely Spider-man pose, but others would disagree.

Some background music for your swing through the album.

LEGO LOTR Game to Feature 85 Playable Characters

LEGO LOTR Game

VG247 reported last week that the upcoming LEGO Lord of the Rings video game will feature 85 playable characters. Now if that isn’t replay value I don’t know what is. With the game’s more linear storytelling approach, it’ll be interesting to see how many times you’ll want to play through the same story over and over with different characters. The other question is whether or not those new characters will offer anything new in terms of gameplay that you haven’t seen ten times over with the other characters.

LEGO: The Lord of the Rings game will be released this October 30. Pre-order your copy today from Amazon or Gamestop. STILL no word on that Elrond figure…
