Star Wars Days is right around the corner (June 18 and 19) and we’ve been busy making plans on our second mini-convention: Bothcon 2011 (pronounced [bawth-kon]). There are two ways you can be involved with the festivities whether you are planning on visiting LEGOLAND that weekend or not.

See all them thar hybridfighters up there? They all want one thing: your vote to win! Our Hybridfighter contest has reached the voting phase and there are a total of 39 uglies in the running. And what is it that they want to win? They’re all vying for a prize package consisting of two of the ugliest ships ever made: 7930 Bounty Hunter Assault Gunship and 7931 T-6 Jedi Shuttle. So check out the poll and vote for your four favorite ships. The winner-take-all poll closes in 7 days. Good luck to everyone in the running!
As part of their POTC worldwide exclusive, MTV has released a LEGO stop motion video recreating the On Stranger Tides trailer. You can also read up on the making of the video here.
With Cars 2 sets available around the corner, I figured now would be a good time to announce our latest site theme. Hit up our theme chooser page to select the new stylesheet. As always, if you find any bugs or flaws post a message on the forum thread to let us know (click on the comments link below). We hope you enjoy it.
Didn’t score any Cars 2 sets when Amazon mistakenly put them up for sale early? Me neither. But LEGO Shop@Home has you covered. You can pre-order all 12 LEGO Cars 2 sets directly from their site. Shipping date is set for May 16th, the official street date for Cars 2 merch.
Thanks to MrCRskater for the heads up.
First, thank you to all the participants who created entries for this contest. We had a great turnout, with some fantastic building all around.
After a rapid-fire Lap 2 and 3 last night, with some extremely tense moments and a crazy 3-way tie for 2nd place, we have a Race Champion in the 2011 Podracer Challenge!
Fatyankee’s Krabby Poddy wins!
The Krabby Poddy made it through the qualifying round that you all voted on, and then survived 3 grueling laps filled with Good and Bad events that you chose. The die was not kind to our racers, doling out bad after bad after bad event. But the Krabby Poddy came out on top!
Also, congrats to roguefx‘s McPod racer which took the fan favorite prize in the qualifying round!
Here’s a reminder of what they win:
– The Fan Favorite will receive a special, one-of-a-kind, personalized LEGO Trophy commemorating their victory, 1 copy of 7962 Anakin’s and Sebulba’s Podracer, 1 MISB copy of 4485 MINI Sebulba’s Podracer & Anakin’s Podracer, and 1 copy of 7961 Darth Maul’s Sith Infiltrator
– The Race Champion will also receive a special, one-of-a-kind, personalized LEGO Trophy commemorating their victory, 1 copy of 7962 Anakin’s and Sebulba’s Podracer, and 1 MISB copy of 4485 MINI Sebulba’s Podracer & Anakin’s Podracer.
After some horrible hangups en route to getting the race started yesterday afternoon, Lap 1 pretty effectively changed the game for many players.
Here are the standings as we head into Lap 2 at 5 pm PST tonight on UStream:
Here’s the spreadsheet where each point modified is added as each event is drawn.
After the race is over we’ll post a play-by-play of all the events and show how everything went down, just in case the (boring) video doesn’t cut it for you.
Update: Lap 1 ended at 6:10 pm PST. Laps 2 and 3 will be held tomorrow, time announced later this evening. We will also be posting the new standings, as well as the spreadsheet with all the points.
Update 2: The final laps will play out tonight Sunday May 8th at 5pm.
