POTC Chrome Gold Replacement Parts

Disappointed by the lack of chrome gold elements in the Pirates of the Caribbean sets even though it’s right there on the box? Yeah, me too. But apparently LEGO is doing something about it. According to a fellow LUG member, if you contact customer service and express your disappointment by their bait and switch tactic, they will send you the proper replacement parts. And in the age of the internet, the golden rule is “pics or it didn’t happen”. So here you go:

New Gold Elements

Here’s hoping that further productions of the sets will have the updated elements.

Cars 2 Trailer LEGO-fied

According to The Brothers Brick, Patrick Boivin was commissioned to remake the Cars 2 trailer in LEGO. You’ll see some animated facial expressions because how else was he supposed to do that which don’t detract at all from the silky smooth stop motion animation.

Thanks to Anonymous Tipster for the tip.

Update: The video now appears on LEGOClubTV’s Youtube channel.

Some fun facts:

  • Several thousand LEGO bricks were used to create the trailer
  • 3 months of animation
  • Was recorded 24 frames/second like the movie; it’s not common to directing stop-motion at 24 frames/second

24 frames per second is astounding and makes the 3 month development time seem a little short.

LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 Slated For The Holidays

As a follow up to the successful LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4, Joystiq is reporting that Years 5-7 will be released in time for the holidays later this year. The game follows Harry and his mates through the final years at Hogwarts. It is slated to be released for all major consoles and handhelds, including Sony’s upcoming, badly-named NGP.

Thanks to ccjwprongs for the tip.

[UK] Sun Newspaper Free Lego deal extended

Apparently, due to “popular demand”, the free Lego deal in the Sun newspaper has been extended by 2 days, covering this Saturday and Sunday.  You can therefore get the following other sets with a purchase of the newspaper :

Saturday :30054 – Star Wars AT-ST

Sunday : 30090 – Pharaoh’s Quest Aeroplane

Now, whether this really is due to “popular demand” or not, I don’t know.  Personally speaking, seeing how many spare boxes of the NinjaGo sets they had at my local WHSmiths this morning, I think it’s more like a “test the water and then announce more sets” kind of thing ;-)

Anyway, same deal as before … get thee down to a WHSmiths or Toys R Us store with a voucher and you’ll get free Lego.  Can’t complain really …
