Set Guide Updated: 2011, User Comments and Ratings

I just updated the LEGO Star Wars set guide with the January assortment of 2011 sets. Some images and data are still missing which I’m working on obtaining. But now that 2011 has been entered, I’ll be working my way backwards and adding previous years of sets and some other licenses.

In addition to the new catalog entries, there are two new features announced on the forums a few weeks ago that I’d like to share with you here:

  • User Comments: User comments have been enabled allowing registered forum members to give a brief review of any set. The comments are moderated but once given the green light, the latest 5 comments will appear in the set guide. An example of the user comments in action can be seen on the 8092 Luke’s Landspeeder page. You can leave a rating on its corresponding forum topic.
  • User Ratings: In addition to comments, registered forum members may also give a numerical rating to a set and all ratings will appear on the right hand column of the entry page. Again, I point you to 8092 Luke’s Landspeeder page as an example. You can leave a rating on its corresponding forum topic.

I’ve read many comments that the set guide was one of the first pages that users encountered on FBTB. I’ve put a lot of work into its resurrection, and still have some features I’m working on that I can’t wait to release. It’s my goal to make the set guide the best it can be, and I can only accomplish that goal with your help. It’s my hope that you, the community members, will take a few moments to leave some comments and rate some sets to really strengthen the set guide. See some errors? Have suggestions? Use the contact form or leave a message on the set guide forum.

[UK] Parts Galore! 700 piece Brick Box for £7.13 at Asda … a 67% discount!

Set Number 5487 Bricks & More parts box, containing 700 bricks, is reduced to just £7.13 at Asda at the moment.  With an RRP of £21.99, that’s a whopping 67% discount!  You’ll probably see that the shelf price is £14.25, but it rings up at £7.13 price at the till.

I believe they also have a few other old sets for a similar discount (i’ve heard rumours of the 3221 Lego City truck for £7-ish!), but stock may vary depending on your local Asda store.

Star Wars On Blu-Ray Up For Pre-order recently posted Star Wars: The Complete Saga (Episodes I-VI) [Blu-ray] for pre-order. If you’ve never ordered DVDs from Amazon, they have a pre-order price guarantee. If anytime between now and when the movie ships, the price drops, you will be guaranteed the lowest price no matter when you ordered. It’s currently listed $89.99, down from the list price of $139.99. It is scheduled to be released this September.

One can only hope Lucasfilm will include the original theatrical releases as a bonus or easter egg. If not, this will be, like, the 19th time the films will be altered beyond recognition as Lucas tends to do enhancements with every release.

Star Wars Miniland Coming To LEGOLAND California

Star Wars Miniland Announced!

I attended a press event today at LEGOLAND California. It began with the president of LEGOLAND giving an update on the parks attendance, the plans for 2011 for new areas of the park, etc etc. It was all very ho hum until he was interrupted by the lights going out, and the Star Wars theme music blaring out of the speaker system. Finally, I thought, he’s going to announce what I was waiting for the whole morning, that Hero Factory was getting a new area in the park that Miniland would get a new, permanent Star Wars themed area. Scheduled to open March 31, 2011, LEGOLAND California will be the first theme park to feature a Star Wars theme miniland area, to be followed by LEGOLAND Deutschland and LEGOLAND Billund.

Unfortunately they didn’t have any of the actual models on display, so I snapped some pics of the promotional posters that were on stage during the event that had some of the models pictured:

R2 and Chewie were there:

The press kit has some promo pictures of the model builders building some of the… models… :

Afterwards, I was lucky enough to enter the Model Shop that’s adjacent to Miniland and Gary McIntire showed a few of us a model of miniland Han on Tauntaun and a miniland Boba Fett that Gary designed:

Excited? I frakkin’ am.
