Review: 8091 Republic Swamp Speeder

“The Infantry Support Platform (ISP), also known as the swamp speeder, was a repulsorlift speeder first deployed by the Grand Army of the Republic for swamp combat during the late Clone Wars.” Thanks Wookipedia, without you I was going to assume this set was something a drunken set designer thought up to fill out the Star Wars lineup.

Review: 8092 Luke’s Landspeeder

Ah, the iconic vehicles of Star Wars… Will you ever stop being redesigned?

Review: 8088 ARC-170 Starfighter

8088 ARC 170 Starfighter
The ARC-170 is possibly my favorite ship to come out of the Clone Wars. Even though it didn’t get a lot of screen time in Revenge of the Sith it left enough of a good impression to warrant a redesign this year (OK, maybe the CW cartoon helped a bit).

8039 Venator 30% Off at

Target has dropped the price on 8039 Venator down to $84.49, 30% off their usual price of $119. You also get free shipping. This is listed as online only.

LEGO S@H had it for 50% off the other day, but it quickly sold out. If you missed out on that, this might be the next best thing.

Thanks Jake for the notification.

FBTB Set Guide Beta

Set Guide Beta

After months, if not years, of neglect, and a few weeks of work, I’ve finally managed to get FBTB’s set guide back up and running. I consider it to be in in beta form right now, with only 2010 sets currently available for view. 2011 is next on the agenda and from then on, I’ll be working backwards adding more years and other licenses over time along with navigational enhancements and other features.

A big thanks goes out to Huw over at Brickset for his help and support.

To start browsing, click on “guide” on the navbar above, or click here to start browsing. Fair warning: the navigation is very bare bones right now.

Got comments? Questions? Suggestions? We’ve created a special new forum for set guide conversations.

“After Christmas Blowout!” at Toys R Us?

LSW Backpack

So I mentioned to check the clearance aisles for deals. Now here come the official sales. First off we have Toys R Us, which in their latest e-mail flyer, which advertises “All LEGO Star Wars On Sale ALL WEEK LONG!” It also says:

    >8097 Slave 1 – Save $10
    >6212 X-Wing – Save $15
    >8098 Clone Turbo Tank – Save $30
    >8129 AT-AT Walker – Save $30

Thing is, these discounts are not showing up online, and all four of these sets are marked up well over MSRP. Not sure what the deal is, but that “promotion” is running through January 1. You also get a free LEGO Star Wars backpack with $30+ purchase.

End-of-the-Year Clearance Time

Just a reminder, today begins the post-Christmas clearances at your local retailer. We already saw LEGO Shop@Home clear out their excess inventory. Now it’s time to watch the other stores. If you’ve got some time to kill, it’s a good idea to check around, as they’ll be marking down their leftover 2010 sets for the next week or so to make way for the incoming 2011 stuff.

The individual stores mark different items at their own discretion, so I can’t say what’ll be waiting for you in the red tag aisles, but get out there and find some deals! If shopping online, we’d appreciate you using the affiliate links on our homepage.
