Toy Fair 2010

The FBTB flickr account is being injected with my photos from the Collector’s Event this morning. I’ll be creating a Features page to make it easier to navigate once the upload is done. In the meantime, you can dial your browser to the stream to see uploads as they go. I apologize, but the hotel wifi isn’t the fastest. I miss my home connection.

And in case you missed it, there were two premiums in the goodie bag this year. One was a Buzz Lightyear Cube Dude, designed by none other than Angus MacLane himself, signed and numbered, natch:

And the other was an all-white Boba Fett minifig:

TRU 20% off Sale On New Sets

Now that prices at TRU have come back down from their unsavory price gouging hike from the holidays to MSRP or near MSRP, I’m happy to report that Toys’R’Us.com and brick’n’mortar stores are featuring a 20% off sale on select new LEGO items. List is below:

New Nolan Batman Film Confirmed, Hope For New Batman Sets

This io9.com article reports that Christopher Nolan’s third Batman film is no longer in the planning stages and is now in production, according to an interview with Warner Brothers President Jeff Robinov published on NYTimes.com. This is pure speculation on my part and while this doesn’t necessarily guarantee new LEGO Batman sets are on the way, it could possibly breathe a little more life into the license enough for the decision makers that be at LEGO to reconsider. Last I had heard, LEGO still has or had the license but chose not to continue the line because it was, financially speaking, a failure. It wasn’t until the LEGO Batman game came around that its popularity peaked and demand went through the roof, but by then it was way too late.

Still, with a Wonder Woman movie in the works, maybe LEGO can work something out with DC/Warner Bros. for an accompanying toy line.

Power Miners Cave Crusher Still Available

Our love for Power Miners here at FBTB runs deep. I’m sure I could make a metaphor about that last statement and underground mining if I tried hard enough.

Anyways.

If you missed out on the Target-exclusive 8708 Cave Crusher during it’s short production run, Target.com has restocked on the item. Hit the link and do a search for “LEGO Cave Crusher” to see the product page. Alternatively, you can dial your browser to Amazon’s product page and still order from Target. Just be sure Target.com/ITC is selected as the seller. You end up paying tax and shipping, but it’s got to be better than trying to acquire one on the after-market.

LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 Preview

In more video game news, Eurogamer.net has posted a rather in-depth preview of the new LEGO Harry Potter game due out in May, also by TT Games. While you may scoff at the idea of yet another hack’n’slash LEGO game from their tried-and-true formula, it sounds like they tweaked enough of the game play to breath a little bit more life into their game engine. An excerpt:

Far more than a simple interactive menu, the school is the place where Harry and friends will attend lessons, learning new kinds of spells, which will in turn open up more of the story. Starting the game – which, as the title suggests, charts the narratives of the first four books – with no knowledge of magic whatsoever, by the end of the adventure, Harry will have filled up a reassuringly spacious selection wheel of powers.

Sounds like TT Games is including a lot more RPG elements to the game. The game is to be released in May of this year, and can be pre-ordered from Amazon.com with their low price guarantee. The game will be available for the Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, DS, PSP, and Windows PC.

LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars Due Out This Fall

LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars

Kotaku is reporting that LucasArts and Traveler’s Tales Games are teaming up once again for a new LEGO Star Wars games set against The Clone Wars saga. The LEGO games are a cash cow for all vested parties, so it comes as no surprise that a game set against the cartoon series is coming out. I am surprised, however, that it’s not labeled as “LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars Season 1″ to really take advantage of the franchise. Game is due out this fall so there’s still time to change the name.

An Austrian website has posted some new photos and video of some of the upcoming 2010 sets. Of interest is the second wave of collectible minifig packs, shown below:

Thanks to Huw from Brickset for the news.

FBTB will be attending the New York Toy Fair next week, which I hope to post better, clearer pictures.
