Steel Fabricator Wanted for Legoland California

In June, I applied to be a Model Builder at Legoland California. Ever since landing one of the positions, it’s been a whirlwind few months of relocating my family, learning a whole new city, and training in the ways of professional Lego model building.

Now could be your chance… sort of.

Our model shop is looking for a Model Animation Tech Fabricator, an intense steel fabrication position key to the large models you see in Legoland and other attractions around the world.

LEGO Prince of Persia Prince Dastan Minifigure

Sure we’ve seen the preliminary photos of the Prince of Persia line, but here’s a nice close up of the Prince Dastan figure:

Printed legs, printed waist, and some sort of new way to clip on two swords on the back.

FBTB’s Holiday Picks Amazon Widget

I’ve implemented an widget to the right side of this page. It’s a quick and easy way to check prices on some LEGO Star Wars sets we think would make great holiday gifts. In particular, the price for 8039 Venator-class Republic Attack Cruiser seems to yo-yo almost hourly. The widget is cached, so you may see an old price displayed; clicking through will always get you the most up-to-date prices, but if you’ve been waiting on a deal for a particular item, better to act as soon as you see the right price.

Keeping Your Priorities Straight

This series of vignettes by John Cooper (minicoop4) highlights the downside of our sometimes socially destructive fanaticism for our hobby. His mini UCS Millennium Falcon story is a cautionary tale that I hope isn’t based on real-life events.

New LEGO Club Magazine Arrives

I just received my LEGO Club Magazine today, and in it is the conclusion of the Hunt for R2-D2 comic. The conclusion? Artoo is carrying plans to the Malevolence and the comic instructs you to complete the online game to see the plans.

Who didn’t see that coming a parsec away?

What’s interesting about the comic though is that it seems to have a smattering of 2010 product drawn into some of the panels, such as the ARC-170 StarFighter, Droid Tri-Fighter, and some sort of one-man freeco speeder on Hoth which I can only guess is from the upcoming Hoth battle packs.

Other tidbits inside the magazine is a one-page promo for the Ben10 line which looks like a cross between Galidor and Bionicle and an interview with model designer Hans Henrik Sidenius who designed 7199 Temple of Doom.
