Toy Fair 2009 Gift

Every year, LEGO prepares a special giveaway to attendees of their collector party. And every year, they always seem to outdo themselves. I’ve updated the Toy Fair 2009 page with words and pictures of this year’s gift: Chrome Vader-in-a-box.

Retail Roundup: 7752 Count Dooku’s Solar Sailer

Are you one of the many that think that $54.99 (MSRP) USD for 7752 Count Dooku’s Solar Sailer is overpriced? If you’ve been holding off on purchasing this set, the current sales deal might be enough for you to pull the trigger. US Toys’R'Us brick and mortar stores are having a 20% off sale on this set. Not sure when this deal ends, but I would guess this Saturday is the last day. You know, if they didn’t make the box so huge, it probably could have retailed for less. Half the box is empty when you open it. LEGO should really re-examine their package design. Smaller boxes means less wasted space, more products can ship on the same pallet, and less impact on the environment overall. Anyways, I digress… AUS TRU stores also have the set on sale for $99.99 AUD. This deal ends on February 24.

The LEGO Group and Disney Announce Licensing Agreement

In my packet of press releases I received from LEGO today, one sheet announced a licensing agreement reached between The LEGO Group and Disney. I wish I had a copy of the press release in digital form so I can republish, or link to it if it was on their site. In any case, it breaks down to the following Disney properties:

Toy Story: Starting in 2010, LEGO will release sets based on Toy Story, Toy Story 2, and Toy Story 3 (the film is set for release in June 2010). LEGO System sets based on TS 1 and 2 will be released starting January 2010, with a May release for TS3. LEGO Duplo sets based on TS will be released in June 2010.

Cars: LEGO Duplo sets based on this property will launch in June 2010. No indication of System sets at this time.

Prince of Persia: LEGO will be releasing sets based on the film Prince of Persia: Sands of Time scheduled for release in April 2010 with a film release of June 2010. This makes me want to whip out my Gamecube and play the game all over again.

Toy Fair 2009!

Greetings! Mike and I are back in our hotel room from Toy Fair with lots of pictures and video to share. I’ll be updating the Toy Fair 2009 page as things are uploaded. If you can’t wait for that you can always view my flickr stream for pictures and Mike’s stream for video content.

The big reveal set this year is 10195 Republic Gunship with AT-OT Walker. Two huge vehicles in one set, you get the Republic LAAT/c and the 16 passenger AT-OT Walker. Priced at $249.99 USD/$349.99 CAD, it will be available March 30 exclusively through LEGO Shop@Home.

Thanks go to Draykov for starting a Toy Fair 2009 discussion thread.

Edit: I’ve uploaded all the photos we took. Mike is working hard on getting the videos done tonight. In the meantime, there are multiple ways to check out the pictures: you can click on the Toy Fair 2009 collection which will break it down by theme, you can check out the feature page which will break it down by theme and by set, or you can view the whole mess by viewing all the pictures tagged with “Toy Fair 2009″. We hope you enjoy the coverage!

New Sets: 7778 Millennium Falcon and 7753 Pirate Tank

If small grainy box art images are your thing, then you might want to take a peek at this thread:

7778 Mid-Scale Falcon & 7753 Pirate Tank (pics).

You may be asking yourself if we’ve forgotten our own RtB policy. We haven’t. We are just loosening the guidelines a little by which we will operate under.

I can only hope that these sets will be at Toy Fair on Sunday. That Falcon looks tasty.

Friday Forum Highlights!

Happy Friday, folks!  Big C here with your weekly look at the most popular conversations and goings-on in the forums right now.

First look at Home 1 set from ToyFare magazine — Check this out to see the ongoing conversation about the brand-new and totally sweet Home One playset that’s just been revealed by ToyFare! Green A-Wing. Ackbar. Mon Motha. Crix Madine. SWEEEEET.
What Got You Started On Star Wars Lego? — This is a pretty cool little talk about what got everyone interested in LEGO Star Wars. I remember we’ve done this before, but I think it’s excellent to start up topics like this again for the forum reboot. We have a bunch of new members that need to contribute to these sorta things.
Who Are You? — Pretty self-explanatory. :-) Click on over here to let everyone know who you are. Like I said, we’ve got a whole passel (that’s right, I used “passel”) of new members, and we’ve got several people who have changed their names (including myself), so check out this thread to see just who the heck everyone is.
FBTB 3.0: Your feedback here! — Got something to say about the new digs? Love ‘em, hate ‘em, need ‘em, squeeze ‘em? Hop on over here to have you say.

Also, I wanted to mention one more thing: The MOCs. Holy smokes, you guys are on fire! Way to go on participating in Shut Up And Build Week! We’ve seen some excellent MOCs in the past few days, and I know that this is just the beginning of what’s looking to be a fresh new perspective on how we build and share our creations. If you haven’t stepped in there yet, I encourage you to go take a look, because these guys are kickin’ butt.

Well done, FBTB! Y’all have a great weekend, and stay tuned for Toy Fair updates!
