Friday Forum Highlights!

Happy Friday, fellow Bothans! This week brought us quite a bit of conversation about LEGO Star Wars and Star Wars in general, so let’s take a look at some of the busiest threads we’re got going right now.

[POLL] Figs vs Builds: what floats your boat? — This is a pretty good convo started by Don, in which he asks an excellent question: Do you buy sets more for the minifigs, or for the parts and the build? Drop on by there to vote in the poll, and make sure to throw in your two cents on the subject.
Speculation: How Will Ahsoka Tano Die? — Pretty morbid question, huh? :-) Whether you hate her or… hate her less, she’s probably going to have to go kaput eventually, seeing as how we never see her in the movies afterwards. Then again, she could certainly go into exile. Or maybe she’s that ADD Stormtrooper in Episode IV who thought he heard something in the hallway of the Death Star…
Best SW lego gimmick? — Here’s a fun conversation going on about our favorite little gimmicks found in LEGO Star Wars sets. Dig the flick-fire missiles? How about that sweet walking AT-AT, or the nice smooth transformation features of the Vulture Droids, or even something as simple as cool doors that open and close? Yay for being easily amused! :-) Anyway, check this thread out and share your thoughts on these groovy features and more.
Who is your favorite Star Wars character? — A classic question. Everyone has their favorite character, so which Jedi/Trooper/Senator/etc. do you hold closest to your heart? After this post, I may have to go with Ric Olie! Hah!

Y’all may remember a while back that I mentioned how awesome things are over in the MOC forum? Well, the hubbub certainly hasn’t died down at all, and things are rockin’ more than ever over there. Let’s take a look at some of the MOCs that have come to us over the interwebz this past week!

[Star Wars] Clone Wars Era Update – 4 new MINI Models! — The man, the myth, the legend. Check out the latest round of MOCs Legostein has added to his huge collection of MINIs.
[STAR WARS] Can’t afford 10195 + Felucia — Another amazing master of the MINI! Check out roguebantha’s latest creation, and his solution to not being able to afford the new 10195 Dropship set. :-)
[Town] ‘E’ is for… — Existentialism? Ebert & Roeper? Extreme Draft-Dodging? Click on over here to check out the latest vignette from the very talented Athos and find out what job he covers next!
[SW] Millennium Falcon — Take a look over here to see some really great mods to the 4504 Millennium Falcon by AdmiralGrievous!

That’s gonna do it for this week! Y’all have a great weekend, and be sure to follow FBTB on Twitter!

Review: 7751 Ahsoka’s Starfighter and Droids

Déjà vu: the feeling or sensation that you have done something before. Long had I thought such a feeling was a myth or simple rationalization to the human mind’s ability to recognize patterns. And then I picked up 7751 Ahsoka’s Starfighter and Vulture Droid, and throughout the process, had a feeling that could only be called déjà vu. Okay, let me preface this whole thing with one comment- I like this set, I bought it because I wanted the Twi’lek that isn’t a Twi’lek (I have a theory about that, it’s because George Lucas wanted more money, and can make more action figures). The droid is slick and unique (guilty confession, but I love the R2 droids- not talking Don’s in-the-bushes-with-binoculars level here, but seriously, who can’t love these guys). But there are three of the large Jedi Starfighters (I’m sure there’s some official name for these – I don’t care) and three of the small ones (okay, four, but two are the same yellow one) at this point.

Note, stay tuned for some updated pictures!

All of the Jedi Starfighters 4 Droid Fighter Comparison

I don’t have Obi-Wan’s RotS starfighter, but if someone would like to send me one, contact me and I’d be glad to provide an address. Not just that, but at this point, we’ve also had a few different Vulture Droids, the other half of this set.

[US] Swan Song For MTT, Republic Cruiser?

Cruising around LEGO S@H, I noticed that the availability status for 7662 Trade Federation MTTicon and the 7665 Republic Cruisericon has changed to “Call to check product availability”. This could be the end of the life cycle for these two sets, so if you’ve been holding out for whatever reason, now may be the time to pull the trigger. Call 800.453.4652 to place your order.

Update: They are both now listed as sold out.

Friday Forum Highlights!

Happy Friday, fellow Bothans! Wow! What a week, huh? Major kudos to Ace and Mikey for bringing the awesomeness to us from Toy Fair, and thanks to Erik Varszegi for showing them the details of all the new sets! 2009 is going to be an incredible year for LEGO all around, and that just makes me all the more excited for what the future holds for the community.

On that note, here is this week’s installment of the Friday Forum Highlights!

10195 Republic Dropship with AT-OT Walker – S@H Exclusive! — Check this thread out for all conversation regarding this totally wicked new set! Can’t to see this one in person!
Lego Star Wars 2010 Idea Thread — Got some ideas for what you’d like to see in the LEGO Star Wars lineup next year? Share them in this thread!
10th Anniversary without Padme — I find the name of this thread hilarious. :-) It’s an ongoing conversation about why we haven’t seen Luke and Leia’s momma in a new set in such a long time.
New 2009 Pics – City, PM, Agents, Space Police — Head this way to join the talk about the non-licensed themes getting new sets this year. Also, SPACE POLICE. WHOO!
Favorite Star Wars Quote — This is a pretty neat little thread where you can share your favorite quote(s) from the Star Wars movies, whether they be serious or humorous. … Mine was definitely not serious.
FBTB Community Project: Sweet Emotion — This was a fun little game we did back in the old forums and was started up again by Joedward. I apologize in advance if the pictures of some of our members scare the bricks outta ya… especially since the theme for the first round is “Slightly Psychotic Happiness.” Ha!

That’s all for now! Y’all have a great weekend!

Review: 7678 Droid Gunship

Discuss on the forum

When I first heard there was going to be a Separatist gunship in Episode 3 during the battle of Kashyyyk, I remember thinking “Ha! Droid gunship? No way that could take on a Republic gunship!” I didn’t think the Separatists could come up with anything that could top the Republic Attack Gunship for sheer firepower and awesome. Then I saw the movie, *briefly* glimpsed the droid gunship in it, and thought nothing more of it. Its role was so small, and we didn’t get to see the inner workings of it like we did the RAG. Simply put, I didn’t know *what* to think of it anymore. “Meh” would be a fitting description.

Putting this set together, I thought back to those first impressions. Were they right?

Poll Resurrected: Buying 10195?

I’ve resurrected the poll on the right hand sidebar there =>. Now I just need to make it a little easier to read. This poll asks the burning question: will you be purchasing a copy of 10195 Republic Dropship with AT-OT Carrier? Many of you on our forums expressed that the price was a little too steep to justify the purchase. My guess is that people will buy this set for the sheer awesomeness that is the dropship and 16-troop carrier and being able to actually fly the two around your living room, dropping the carrier on your suspecting pets to mount an assault. But if this set is not your cup of tea, tell us why.
